The Highland Varsity Softball Team had a great week as they played 7 games in 8 days. The Scots rounded out the week going 5-2 to bring their record to 11-5 overall and 7-1 in the MOAC (2nd).
Saturday 4/11- Home Double Header vs Fredericktown - Win 13-7 and Win 10-4
The Lady Scots hosted the Fredericktown Freddies and won both games with final scores of 13-7 and 10-4 respectively. The first game saw Braylin Romshak on the mound for 4 innings and Lydia Shaffer coming in to close the last 3 innings. Camryn Kline was behind the plate and caught one stealing. Romshak gave up 7 hits, had 1 strikeout, 2 walks, and 4 earned runs. Shaffer gave up 4 hits, had 4 strikeouts, 1 walk, and 3 earned runs. At the plate the Scots were hot offensively. Maddy Stuckman had 2 homeruns, a triple and 6 RBIs. Shaffer had two homeruns as well with 3 RBIs. Other hits came from Kate Clements, Dalaynie Hernandez, Kline (double), Romshak, and Saylor Squires.
Game 2: Lydia Shaffer started the game and threw 2 innings. She gave up 3 hits, struckout 2, allowed 0 walks, and had 2 earned runs. Dalaynie Hernandez came in in the 3rd inning and pitched the remaining 5 innings allowing 4 hits, struckout 2, allowed 0 walks and 1 earned run. Offensively Madyd Stuckman had an additional homerun with 3 RBIs. Kate Clements went 3 for 4 with a double and 5 RBIs. Camryn Kline, Shaffer (1 RBI), and Saylor Squires all added 2 singles a piece. Other hits came from Hernandez (1 RBI) and Amber Walker.
Tuesday: Home vs Galion - Win 7-4
Lydia Shaffer was on the mound for the Fighting Scots with Camryn Kline behind the plate. Shaffer earned the win for the Scots throwing a complete game allowing only 1 Earned Run and giving up 6 hits while striking out 9 and not allowing any walks. Offensively, the Lady scots tallied 9 hits on the day. Multiple hits came from Kate Clements who had 3 hits (1 triple/1 RBI), Saylor Squires had 2 hits (1 triple), and Maddy Stuckman added 2 hits as well (1 RBI). Other hits came from Braylin Romshak and Lydia Shaffer (1 RBI). Hernandez added an RBI sacrifice fly as well.
Wednesday: Highland @ Galion - Win 10-0 (5 innings)
The Lady Scots traveled to Galion on Wednesday defeated the Tigers 10-0 thanks in part to six runs in the first inning. Kate Clements doubled, scoring one run, Maddy Stuckman tripled, scoring one run, Dalaynie Hernandez singled, scoring one run, Braylin Romshak singled, scoring one run, Hailie Pruett hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Camryn Kline singled, scoring one run. The Scots added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Lydia Shaffer singled to center field, Pruett singled to center field, Kline singled to center field, and Nevaeh DeWeese laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run. Saylor Squires earned the win. The starter had a no hitter going into the bottom of the fifth and ended up giving up 1 hit. She allowed 0 runs over five innings, striking out two and walking one.
Thursday: Home vs Bishop Ready - Win 16-1 (5 innings)
Thursday: Home vs Bishop Ready - Win 16-1 (5 innings)
The Highland Fighting Scots rolled to a 16-1 win over Bishop Ready on Thursday, powered by a dominant offensive performance from the entire team. The Scots erupted for seven runs in the second inning and finished with 20 hits on the day.
Kate Clements, Braylin Romshak, and Saylor Squires each had three hits, while several others added multi-hit performances in a complete team victory. Kate had 2 doubles, a single, and 3 RBIs. Braylin added a double, 2 singles, and 2 RBIs and Saylor has a triple, 2 singles and 2 RBIs as well. Romshak earned the win in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out five over five innings with Camryn Kline behind the plate. Neveah DeWeese, Dalaynie Hernandez, Hailie Pruett, and Lydia Shaffer each added two additional hits apiece. Kline, Maddy Stuckman, and Amber Walker each added a single as well.

Saturday: Double Header @ Johnstown - Loss 0-10 and Loss 4-13
The Highland Fighting Scots dropped both games of a doubleheader to Johnstown-Monroe on Saturday, falling 10-0 in Game 1 and 13-4 in Game 2. In the opener, Dalaynie Hernandez led the Scots with two hits, while the defense played error-free. In Game 2, the Scots jumped out early with runs from Maddy Stuckman, Saylor Squires, and a two-run home run by Kate Clements, but a big fourth inning by Johnstown-Monroe shifted momentum. Squires led the Scots with three hits, while Stuckman added two as Highland continued to battle throughout the day.
